Description of service
The classes were for a little over a month and cost about $175 total. This fee covered the class, the studio fee, firing, and glazes. It also allowed you to use the studio outside of class times. Clay was available for purchase at an extra cost. Any tools necessary were also included in the $175.
Review of Service
This class in particular was a beginner's class. I had never done any work with clay before so this class was well suited for me. We learned the basics of throwing clay (using a potter's wheel to spin the clay while using your hands to shape it), the basics on how to use glazes, and what the firing process is like. We also learned how to hand form things like cups by just rolling out and cutting sheets of clay.
Tips
This class was definitely a beginner's class. There were some people there who had taken a class before, but just wanted a refresher. This was at a private studio and the price was kind of high. Check with local continuing education schools, high schools, colleges, or art coops to see if they have better prices. Also, make sure the open studio hours fit your schedule - you want as much practice as possible so make sure you are able to go as often and for as long as possible.
