The day after Christmas in 2006 my husband was stopped at a stop light and was hit from behind by a drunk driver. It was a five car pile-up. Thankfully he was okay. About a week after his accident our mailbox was FLOODED with advertisements from different lawyers. We sat down one night and opened each one carefully and tried to narrow it down to just one. We had just bought the car in June. We finally decided on a lawyer and he gave them a call the next day.
Review of Service
I guess because we are young and because we've never really had to do anything like this we didn't do our research. We just thought that whatever they said in those advertisements is really what would happen. They had promised to get us the MOST money that they possibly could and to get us a rental car, etc. We got to keep the rental car for THREE days. That's it. We waited TEN months to get a settlement and when we did we only got about 10,000 dollars and we had to pay the lawyers almost HALF of it. Maybe that's the norm but looking back I think that if we would have done our research we could have come out with a lot more money.
Tips
DO YOUR RESEARCH! We had to wait forever to settle and we didn't get near what they had promised us. Ask everybody you know; friends, family, co-workers who they have personally used as a lawyer and how it came out. Don't just settle for the first thing that sounds good.
