Description of service
The lawyer took the case for us. My son had been shot at a local fair and we were suing for the medical costs. The lawyer took the case on a contingency basis which included legal paperwork filed and a 20% fee. I agreed to this as it seemed reasonable. Actually I did most of the paperwork, all he did was file it.
Review of Service
The case lingered on for over three years. My son ended up in the hospital with a blood clot which almost killed him. The lawyer did nothing to help us get medical expenses. Finally after 4 years we settled. The lawyer took over 75% of the settlement and we ended with not enough to pay the medical bills. Not only that, we later found out that the lawyer had taken the other case and filed suit against the church for lack of security measures. This person settled big time. His father was our lawyer's partner. As can be seen, our service was very poor and makes me very leery of lawyers.
Tips
When hiring a lawyer, don't go by a friend's referral. Check them out thoroughly with the bar association. Once chosen make sure you understand the exact services and the costs involved.
