Description of service
I had been seeing these free-standing DVD rental machines all over the place. They advertised that they held like 300+ movies and you could rent them for a $1.00 a day! They take your credit card or debit card and the movie is dropped out of the machine like you would buy a candy bar in a vending machine. That's what they are really, DVD vending machines! The vending machine has a touch screen where you pick your movie from a huge list of movies that are broken down into genres, new releases, etc. Then you swipe your credit/debit card to pay, and the movie comes out. You return the movie to the same place the next day or you can keep it as long as you want knowing you will be charges $1.00 for each additional day.
Review of Service
I think this is really cool. I would imagine it is hurting the DVD rental retail stores somewhat too, as its much cheaper. Plus its really convenient, as the DVD machines are usually located at grocery and discount stores where you are already shopping. The machine is easy to use and really fast. If you know what movie you want, its almost as fast as an ATM machine. I would recommend it to anyone. Really neat service.
Tips
Don't get frustrated if they do not have the movie you want. They have multiple copies of really popular DVDs in the machines, but these machines are pretty popular, so they do run out just like the retail stores do. I also had to stand in line to use the machine when I did it, so that is an issues too, especially on the evenings and weekends.
