Description of service
DSL service at 6.0 KBPS (the fastest speed they offered). It was hooked up to my desktop computer at no charge, but there is a catch. I had to install the software my self, which was pretty easy and I had to agree to an eighteen month contract in which I agreed to stay with my providor for a year and a half. They also offered different speeds at differnt price levels. For my 6.0 MBPS I pay 39.99 a month which includes free incoming calls to my landline phone number. I pay .10 a minute for calls going out. They made me pay $50 for the DSL modem, but they gave me a $50 mail in rebate for the modem so it was essentially free.
Review of Service
The service is okay, I regret ever changing from a cable modem to DSL. I don't think DSL is bad, but I believe my providor is bad. I get unreliable service, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but the speed (when it is working) is awesome. I get disconnected from the internet about two to three times a day. Whereas, I might have been disconnected with my cable modem two or three times a year.
Tips
You should ask around and see which providors are good. Ask people at the store, in the mall, at the park, anywhere. Family and friends are the best people to get reviews from because they are usually the most honest. See if DSL or Cable would be best for you and then compare prices to find something that fits in your budget.
