Description of service
I took my dog to be groomed (he's large - 110 pounds). The services included: bathing, drying, nail trimming and filing, ear cleaning, and coat conditioning. Because my dog has severe separation anxiety and cannot be left in a crate, he has to be the first dog of the day (8:00 a.m.) and the groomer has to call me when he is about 20 minutes from being finished and she keeps him near her until I get there.
The cost of grooming is $28.50 (no additional charges for special accomodations)- the services are considered a "package deal", the charges are reduced if the dog is smaller. I generally tip $10.00, because of the extra time she spends with him precludes her taking another animal
Review of Service
The value of the service is excellent. I have have taken him to other groomers in town and because of his size have paid between $35.00 and $40.00. Some groomers charge extra for the nail trimming, and not all offer nail filing. Ear cleaning can also cost more at some groomers.
The dog is very comfortable with the groomer and does not appear stressed when I pick him up. He is always immaculately clean and brushed, his nails are trimmed and filed perfectly. He does not like having his nails trimmed (pulls his paws away constantly), but has never been "quicked" by the groomer here.
The only drawback of this groomer is that she is only there during the week and every other Saturday and her first appointment is 8:00 a.m., so I have to leave the house with him by 7:30 a.m. which means I don't get to sleep in on my day off.
Tips
Always ask to meet the groomer or person who will be taking care of your pet and observe him or her with your animal before you leave them. Try to have the same groomer each time so that the dog gets used them and learns to trust them. Also, never hesitate to ask questions about a service or voice a complaint. Even if you don't take your pet back to that location, the manager needs to know if you are not happy.
