Description of service
My 9 year old son had dental sealants placed on his back teeth (uppers and lowers) for $250. Our insurance didn't cover sealants, so we paid this out-of-pocket. For the cost, I think sealants are a good investment against cavities. The procedure took about an hour.
Review of Service
My son had his sealants placed by our normal dentist. He has been going to this dentist for 6 years (me -- about 30 years.) The dental staff has been very good at helping my son remain calm during procedures -- he has a strong gag reflex. For this procedure they can him headphones with music to listen to durng the procedure. They painted on the sealants and then let them dry with a special light. He said it wasn't painful. When he was done he was able to pick a treat from their treat basket (which still excites him at 9!)
Tips
Call ahead and get a price quote.
If you have dental insurance, call them and see if sealants are covered under your plan. Sometimes you have to actual write to the insurance company as an over-the-phone quote is not considered official.
Ask your dentist if they provide any services to ease a child's fears during the procedure (e.g. listening to music, letting them play a hand-held video game, watching a movie, etc...)
