Description of service
My son's dentist recommended dental sealants for his molars in order to prevent cavities. We felt this was a huge benefit, since we do not have dental insurance. The cost was per tooth and we had four done. It is a fairly simple procedure that took no longer than a normal check up, and considerably less time than the usual appointment for a filling. After sufficient cleaning, the dentist applied a sealing material to the chewing surface of the molars. There was no need for any numbing or pain medicine, and it went very well.
Review of Service
The dentist office that we went to recommended this procedure and uses it on most kids. Often the insurance pays for it as a preventative measure. The dentist was able to do this in a very timely manner and it was painless. My son was surprised it was over so quickly - the only downside was a waiting period before he was able to eat - but that is normal for just getting a cleaning, so it was not a problem. There was also a slight smell involved during the application process and it had to be "set" with the heat gun. So far it has lasted about a year and a half.
Tips
This is a simple procedure and prevents cavities. It lasts quite a long time and simply wears away, so there is no removal process. The usual dentist can apply it quickly and it really has helped my son. No cavities yet!
