Description of service
We sent our daughter to one hour pottery classes that met once per week. The cost of 8 weeks of lessons was $400 and included all materials.
Review of Service
Because we home school our daughter, we're always looking for ways to make sure she gets plenty of social interaction. When our local community center started offering pottery classes geared especially towards kids we thought it'd be a great idea.
My daughter was very excited so you can imagine our disappointment when the classes were taught in a really unprofessional manner. The teacher clearly had no or very little experience with kids. She would get in front the class and give somewhat long lectures on the different aspects of creating pottery without doing much showing. This quickly lost the kids' attention and they then would get unruly. She had no idea how to deal with this and the result was that very little got taught and the teacher just stood around being frustrated. Unfortunately we'd signed up for 8 weeks in advance so we had to keep sending our daughter, though I did attend the last 5 classes with her to make sure she was OK.
Tips
Don't sign up for 8 weeks of classes if you can help it - instead try and see if you can just sign up for one class on a provisional basis to see if it's the right type of class for your kid.
