the Price of Engagement Portraits

Despite being engaged for a year, we decided we should get some engagement shots done. We chose to go non-traditional, and have outside photos taken in some of our favorite spots. For $450, the photographer did multiple angles and multiple shots, and offered free digital proofs. We then received a package of prints -- not necessary in today's digital world, in my opinion -- and a DVD-R full of high-resolution shots.

The photos turned out brilliant. We wanted a non-traditional photographer that specialized in artistic, hip-looking photos -- none of the traditional stuff for us! We were very pleased with the locations we selected, and how the photographer worked the shots. The quality of prints were exceptional -- done in the photographer's own print lab. The highlight for us was the high-res photos on DVD-R. We used these online, and they edited well, and printed out beautifully. Overall, an exceptional experience for $450.

First, have some ideas on where you wish to go to shoot your photos. The world's best photographer can't help you if you can't assist in making the shoot special for you. Second, always prepare for the worst -- it was rainy the day we chose to shoot, so we made the best of it and slightly modified our plans. Always have a plan B!
