Description of service
The heat was not being pushed through the house and water was collecting under the boiler. They didn't need to replace any parts - the problem was a loose connection in the secondary heat exchanger. They agreed to price the visit as a regular service, which meant that they checked the whole system for less than the call out would have cost.
There was no cost for parts. Cost of labor was $149. They added a fuel charge (they are based in Essex, MA and we are in Salem, MA) of $8 to make the total $157.
Review of Service
Excellent service. We were able to get an appointment quickly and they showed up on time. The technician was friendly and went above and beyond on the problem. He also got it fixed quickly. The final cost was far less than we feared.
Tips
Get a recommendation from somebody who has had a good experience with a service like this before. Our neighbors had used this particular company and liked them a lot.
If you have an older heating system, then consider getting a maintenance contract which will pay for regular annual maintenance. The cost can work out less in the long run than calling somebody out each time and your heating system will probably last longer.
