the Price of Heating Repair

Although we only use our central heat during a few months of the year, it still needs to be in working order and, when we went to turn it on this year, the air that it was sending out was not warm at all, so we called a local repair shop to come out and look at it. It turned out to be a very simple repair involving the replacement of a wire, but we were charged $175 for the home visit, which was the minimum charge they allowed.

It was a little embarrassing that the repair took such a small amount of time, but we were glad that the company could get someone out to our house within a day and that the heating system didn't have any major problems. The repairman was very nice and seemed to feel bad that he had to charge us the $175 minimum, but we were satisfied with the service and the result and we knew the price when we requested the visit, so it is fair.

If you live in a cold-weather climate, you definitely should get your heat checked at the beginning of the season, but even in a warm area like the southwest, you should at least check the heat once a year. If you do need service, try to find a handyman in your neighborhood before you can a service and end up paying for something that might be a simple repair.
