Description of service
I paid 125.00 for labor and 370.00 for parts for a total of 495.00 to have a handy man come in and replace the "mother board" on my furnace and take the furnace fan out, take it apart, clean it and put it back in. The furnace had been submerged in a flood in my basement. I replaced the filter myself, so that is not included in this cost. When he was done with the repairs he turned the gas back on and lit the pilot light for me, making sure everything was working again.
Review of Service
The service was good, the handy man had done some other work for me so I knew who to call. The service did not take long, but I had to wait a week for the part to come in, no one had it in stock. It took about an hour to pull the fan, clean it and replace it. It took maybe 15 minutes to replace the mother board. The contractor was efficient, showed up on time and was very pleasant.
Tips
If possible get a referral from a friend or neighbor before hiring a contractor or furnace repair person. If you hire a contractor, make sure they are certified to do the work you are requesting. If you don't know the contractor you might request an appointment when your spouse or a friend can be at the house with you. Expect the parts to be costly, because they can be, and if they are not you will have a pleasant surprise. Make sure they start the furnace before they leave, even if it's hot out. Set the thermostat and make sure it's still working. This does not take long, they shouldn't mind.
