Meh. The service is okay, but not stellar. My promotional period was up with my previous telephone service provider, so when I shopped around for a better deal, the fiber optic provider had a better deal going on at the time. While it has some features that are different from my previous provider, it isn't anything that I really notice, and if they weren't cheaper, I wouldn't have made the effort to switch. I don't notice a difference in the quality of the sound over the phone, or the quality of my voicemail. I do see some benefit in being able to check messages and incoming and outgoing calls from the computer--something unique and kind of cool, but certainly not necessary. The installation went fairly smoothly, but the techs were very late. They were certainly friendly and professional, but it is irksome to sit and wait during a four-hour window to have the service installed, only to have them be an hour later than the four hour window--I could have been doing any number of things other than waiting. I am not thrilled with the service, but I am not annoyed by it either. I won't recommend it, but I won't complain about it either.

Use the competitor's installation price and service to negotiate with your current provider, unless you really dislike the service they are providing--then go ahead and switch. Otherwise, no need to give yourself a headache over installing fiber optic phone service.
