Description of service
I have recently switched to a fiber optic telephone service provided by my local phone company. This plan has unlimited calling in the United States and Canada, as well as low international rates. Unlike VOIP services, the Fiber Optic service does not require that the house have power in order to function properly, making it better to have in the case of emergency or major storm. There was some additional wiring required with installation, as a fiber optic line had to be run directly to my house from the nearest pole. This service also includes call waiting, and three way calling.
Review of Service
I have had absolutely no problems with this service. The line has always had crystal clear quality, and there has never been any static, dropped calls, or disruption of service. While I do miss the voice mail feature that my VOIP carrier had, it is not something that made it worth keeping the VOIP.
Tips
It takes a long time to install the Fiber Optic Service, usually half a day because of the need to run the additional line into your house, secure it, and connect it to your existing telephone network interface box. So be sure to expect it to last just as long, if not longer, than they say that it will.
