Description of service
I have had this tattoo for 12 years and decided it was time to get rid of it. I went in for the initial consultation. Each session was $250 and I had a total of 5 sessions. The sessions were spaced 6 weeks apart and the entire treatment cycle, from initial appointment to final session took just over 7 months. Insurance did not cover the cost of the removal process, but I was allowed to pay at the time of the session instead of all at once. The total cost of the sessions was $1250 and the initial consultation was $150 for a total of $1400.
Review of Service
The doctor and the laser technician were very friendly and knowledgeable. Prior to the removal, the area was treated with a topical anesthetic and a cooling cream to further numb it. At the end of each session, I was informed of aftercare procedures and sent on my way. At the completion of treatment, my tattoo is not noticeable at all. There is a bit of pink tissue, but it is not obvious at all and should lighten with time. Overall, I was very pleased.
Tips
It does help to have realistic expectations. My tattoo was all black ink work,so it was a bit easier to remove than a full color tattoo. As I mentioned above, I did have a bit of scarring, but I am prone to scarring so your experience may vary. It can be uncomfortable due to the heat that the laser puts out, but it wasn't painful at all. Be prepared to take your time - you must wait a prescribed amount of time between sessions and if you stop halfway through your treatment, you won't have good results. I was also told to avoid over the counter pain relievers as it can interfere with the topical anesthetic. After each session, be prepared to just relax for a while as the area will be tender.
