Description of service
The doctor used a laser to "burn" away the tattoo. He explained during the consultation that it is an elective procedure not covered under my health insurance. The total cost was up to me to pay. He explained that it would take 3 to 5 treatments with the laser to completely remove the tattoo depending on how deep the ink was. The ink was very dark so it took all five treatments to completely remove it. The doctor used a gel over the area to be treated with the laser then used a laser tool to "zap" over every section of the tattoo. It would scab over after each treatment. It was painful, more painful than getting the tattoo to begin with. However, the doctor did use a numbing gel over the area to be treated.
Review of Service
I was satisfied with the procedure. It did leave a scarring, but it is not very noticable, just a little but pinker than the rest of my skin. It is in an area that is not noticable or exposed when I am wearing clothes so it is not a big deal. The doctor explained the procedure and cost up front and he was realistic about what to expect from the procedure. I was happy with the results.
Tips
Check around and have a consultation with a few different doctors. Call your insurance company and find out if they cover this procedure before going in. Most of all, have realistic expectations, once a tattoo is there, it may be easier to tattoo over it than to laser it away.
