Description of service
After being diagnosed with high blood pressure, I knew I would rather eat right, exercise, and get it under control naturally if at all possible. My doctor recommended a nutritionist out of town who he said he uses exclusively. The $120 included 2 different sessions with the nutritionist.
Review of Service
The initial appointment didn't take long to get. I was visiting with the nutritionist within 2 weeks of my high blood pressure diagnosis. During the initial visit, she gave me a small notepad and told me to record everything that went into my mouth for the next 2 weeks, no matter how small the amount. She then demonstrated how much a serving size was of different foods.
When I returned 2 weeks later she analyzed my diet and told me that I was eating plenty of vegetables, but not enough fruit. She also said that my dairy intake was too high for someone with high blood pressure and suggested I both cut back on dairy as well as begin using low fat or no fat versions of my favorite dairy items. She also suggested that I vary my vegetables (I was eating basically the same ones over and over) and incorporate leaner meats or try going meatless a few days a week.
Tips
Although there is a ton of nutrition information available at no cost, I know that I am more inclined to pay attention when I have to pay for a service. The one-on-one attention I received let me know that the advice I received was for ME, not just an "average" diet for an "average" person.
