Description of service
Our 12-year old cat is very large, and has very long hair. We've noticed she has a hard time cleaning her posterior, so the hair gets matted quickly, no matter how often we brush it. Once we started taking her in for the "lion's cut" at a local groomer, we noticed she really liked the way it felt once we got her home. She would seem more comfortable and at ease, and even more social. So we started taking her in on a bi-annual basis for them. The service would include a bath (no flea dip), and a lion's cut where hair would only be left on her head, a little on her paws, and a puff at the end of her tail. Once she was dropped off, she would be ready in approximately three hours. We did this again in March, only the service took approximately five hours, presumably because it was a Saturday and the groomer was very busy.
Review of Service
The service we received was good, but the prices have gone up quite a bit. This time, he threw in the "nail clip" complimentary, presumably because the cost of this lion's cut is about $20 more than it was last time we went. This particular time, the groomer did a good job in giving her a close and even shave, and removing as much hair as possible.
Tips
For a lion's cut, I recommend calling around and finding out which place does this most frequently. One place we considered was a good local reputable groomer, but the person who did cat grooming admitted than in ten years she had only done a handful of lion's cuts. It's best to go with someone experienced. Also, it's important to know what your cat will tolerate. This cat who gets the cut will whine a bit, but she tolerates it fairly well and is always happier when we get home, but we have another cat who would absolutely freak out and not tolerate any of it, including the bath.
