Description of service
This visit cost $140 before insurance. The visit was for medication management and about twenty minutes of counseling. This counseling consisted of a conversation of how things were going with my condition, and whether things had improved or gotten worse. The psychiatrist also asked about any major events in my life to see if those would have had an effect on my mental health condition. Lastly, the psychiatrist asked how my medication was working, reviewed my current prescription, and gave me a prescription for refills.
Review of Service
The quality of the service was good. The psychiatrist took time to find out how things were going in my life and whether I had any issues that needed to be addressed. She also did a thorough job in reviewing my current medications and determining whether the dosages needed to be adjusted or changed. The psychiatrist also asked if I had any other physical health issues that I was currently taking medication for to check for interactions.
Tips
Be cautious in choosing a psychiatrist. Be sure that you choose one who understands your mental health issues and is willing to listen to you, rather than just prescribe whatever is currently popular. If a psychiatrist is not able to discuss your concerns and wishes regarding medications and their side effects, that person is not the right doctor for you. Find a doctor who is personable, knowledgeable about the medications available, and will listen to your concerns and take them into account.
