Description of service
The service that I signed up for was 10 1-hour sessions sitting down with my psychiatrist once a week and talking things through that were bothering me in my life. The psychiatrist then provided me with prescriptions that helped me with my problems that I described to him. The fees that I paid were up front before every meeting and there were no extra fees involved.
Review of Service
As most people know, the general difference between psychologists and psychiatrists is that psychiatrists can provide prescriptions for their patients that they see. I had already visited a psychologist and ended my sessions there because I did not see as productive results as I would have liked to. Now, I am seeing a psychiatrist who can help talk to me like a psychologist while also helping me find mild medication to help me deal with any disorders that my psychiatrist may diagnose. The service is great, as you enter into the office and you can sit or lie down and express your feeling to the psychiatrist and he will help guide the conversation to delve deeper into your emotions. It is therapeutic alone to just sit down and vent to someone, and when you have a professional on the other end guiding you towards finding what is really bothering you deep down, then it is that much more easily for you to view your own self. When you can view your own self and logically run through any emotions that previously did not make sense to you, it helps you figure out what the triggers may be and how to prevent them in the future. This way, you can either help any disorder you have or you can understand it better so that you are more comfortable and can come to terms with what is bothering you. The service is extremely helpful in determining on problems that you cannot solve yourself while being a therapeutic hour that you can have once a week.
Tips
I would recommend seeing a psychologist first to see if talking through your problems will help. Then, if you feel that a psychologist is not as beneficial to you, set an appointment with a psychiatrist. Psychiatrists can perform the same function as psychologists plus they have the option of prescribing something to help patients, which can help when talking through problems start to fail. The one thing I would like to stress about seeing any specialist is to do your research and ask friends/relatives as to what psychiatrist to see because there are all kinds of specialists out there. Find someone you are comfortable with and then make appointments on a longer term basis.
