Description of service
These were advanced violin lessons. The rate was $75.00 an hour with a member of the city symphony. I did not pay for any materials, as I owned my own instrument and sheet music. I did not tip the teacher, as the fee goes directly to the teacher for his time.
Review of Service
The quality of the service was generally wonderful. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the teacher was highly qualified. I found the price to be generally concordant with those of similar instructors, and appropriate for the level of the lesson.
Tips
If you are contemplating taking a lesson for any sort of instrument, it is absolutely imperative to meet with more than one professor. If you are not comfortable with the teacher, then the cost hardly matters. Costs will vary depending on the skill of the student; beginning lessons will generally cost less than more advanced lessons with better-known instructors. Also, some instructors will have violins that you can rent for the duration of the lesson, but you will probably wish to purchase your own, personal violin for best comfort and results. Be prepared for other costs to crop up along the way, especially for a beginner, such as sheet music fees, resin, strings, etc.
