Description of service
This is the monthly cost for VoIP telephone service. With this service you call through your high speed internet connection instead of a regular phone line. What it does is it allows for unlimited calling to anywhere in the United States and Canada for the flat rate. Also, you must buy their telephone, which is $150 to be used with this service. The other person you are calling must also have the video phone and service if they want to use video conferencing.
Review of Service
The call is crisp and clear. Overall to pay for internet on top of this $50 service is steep if we did not call a lot of long distance. Also this was the best solution for my mother-in-law, who is not computer savy, to be able to call family using video without having to play around with the computer. Additionally, the $150 investment in hardware is quite expensive. There is a one year contract along with this. This would be a good choice, also, if we were to use it in our office for all those long distance conference calls. For now though we are still looking into that.
Tips
The key is to research all alternatives. There are many alternatives out there that are better and cheaper, if not free. For example, with an internet connection you could chat (with video) with family over the internet. Another alternative is to simply use your existing telephone service if you do not call much long distance. So research your needs, availability in your area and pricing.
