Description of service
I was paying over $60 per month for my basic phone service as well as up to $300 some months for long distance, I found out about the VOIP and signed up for a program that costs $47 per month. The cost includes free long distance, though there is a stipulation about abusive usage but it starts at several thousand minutes in a month. My wife was concerned about losing service in a power outage but the special modem that is supplied has a battery that will run the phone line for up to 10 hours, so long as it is not a wireless phone.
Review of Service
I was one of the first people to get this service in our neighborhood and we had a lot of problems the first two or three weeks with the phone, especially dropping calls. The provider came out several time to try to find the problem and eventually they ended up replacing all of the cable from our street splitter to the house. All of the service calls were free and they gave us a credit for the first two weeks of service.
Tips
Be careful to review the long distance rules, some of the companies I looked at started charging after a very low amount of free time, also, not all of the calling features were free on a few of them.
