Review of Service
All I can say is that we got what we paid for... maybe a little less. The house in question did not have a lot of surface to cover, but did need a great deal of prep work to make it really look good, as it hadn't been painted in quite some time. We did discuss the fact that there was loose paint that needed to be removed. There was also quite a it of prep work that needed to be done around the windows, as in scraping, a bit of glazing, etc.
Unfortunately, instead of scraping the painter decided to power wash the house and decided on his own that that was enough. It wasn't. The power washing did remove much of the loose paint, but it of course did not smooth out the areas where the paint was removed. This would have required sanding and some primer, and that wasn't done. There was a bit of glazing done, but the quality of the work was poor.
All in all, the house looks better and it does have a fresh coat of paint on it, but if we had had time to do the work ourselves the quality would have been far better than what we got.
Tips
Make it very, very clear exactly what you want done as far as prep work, and get a signed contract outlining those details.
