Description of service
I paid $10,000 for a new roof and new gutters. It included shingles, nails, plywood, rafter beams, nails, gutters, rainspouts, and all other necessary materials. It also included labor and hauling away of the old roof. My roof was over 20 years old, was leaking, and had shingles falling off. The roofing company came and ripped of all the shingles, the plywood and some of the rafter beams (only the ones under the leak were water damaged and needed to be replaced.) They then put down new plywood and new shingles. They came back a couple days later and put on new gutters and rainspouts. Before leaving, they cleaned up the yard and hauled away all the garbage in a dumpster.
Review of Service
I was very happy with the service. Ten thousand dollars seemed like a lot, but I guess when you consider the cost of the supplies and the amount of people who worked on the project, it was worth it. The job was completed very quickly. The roof was completed in two days and then a different crew came back a couple days later to do the gutters, which took only a couple hours. Overall, it was a superior job.
Tips
We debated between going with a big company that does a few roofs a day or going with an independent business that just has one or two guys. The big company was about $2,000 more, but they had a 25-year guarantee and also got done much faster than a smaller company would have because they had so many people working on one job (about 10 were at our house). Also when they realized they needed to replace a few rafters, they called on the radio and someone from their company delivered then in about 20 minutes. An independent roofer would have had to stop work for the day to go to the hardware store.
