the Cost of Replacing a Roof

The price listed was the total price for the entire job. For those of you who don't know what roofing a house entails, here's a quick break down of what I was paying for. I have a small cottage that is about 1500 square feet so it wasn't by any means the biggest of jobs. The total price included tearing off the old roof, disposal of the old roof, tar paper, shingles, nails and about 3 workers who worked for about 8 hours during one day to complete the job.

Like most springs in Michigan we have had a fair amount of rain and thunderstorms. I was a bit afraid that I wouldn't be able to get my roof replaced in time for his tumultuous season because my old roof was about 25 years old and leaked. The company I used was quick and speedy and giving me a quote for the job and scheduling when the job could be done. I had about 3 companies quote the job and they varied in price by about $1500 I chose the middle of the three because it was only $200 more than the cheapest and honestly I felt that the company was a bit more established and responsible. Ultimately I feel I made the correct choice because surprisingly the job was done on time and was of extremely high quality, because lets be honest, contractors aren't the most punctual of professionals. I would defininely use these roofers again.

I would recommend that everyone who needs a new roof get at least 3-4 quotes because chances are there are quite a few companies out there who will overcharge because they know there are a bunch of suckers willing to pay exorbitant amounts of money for their service. Finally don't be surprised if it isn't done on time or the roofers don't show up on time. I may have been lucky, but this is a problem that the industry is notorious for.
