Description of service
We hired a high school student who has had cello lessons for 7-8 years, to teach our child the basics of playing the cello. Our child knew how to read music already and had some background knowledge of the instrument, so this seemed like a good way to move forward. The lessons were 30 minutes each week and the cost was for one month or four lessons. We never had to reschedule, but if we had, we would not have gotten a refund. I think this is the usual practice among music teachers.
Review of Service
We ended up finding out that our child was not as interested in the cello as they thought they would be, so they took the lessons for about 2 months and then they quit. We had borrowed a cello, so that was fine and we were glad to find out before we had purchased a cello that it was not going to be the instrument of choice. This was a worthwhile use of time and money for us. The lessons were well done, and my child actually did get a sense of the cello, but soon realized it was not for him.
Tips
Taking lessons is a good way for kids to find out if they like an instrument. I would advise borrowing or renting the instrument for a time, to find out if the child will enjoy it, rather than purchasing it outright. Renting can be an option as well.
