Description of service
I went to an ophthalmologist for my annual eye exam. Unfortunately my health insurance did not cover the visit which cost $110. The price was just for the exam and did not include any eye wear or accessories that I needed. I purchased a pair of glasses for $320, so at the end of the day my total cost was $430. The price of the glasses can vary based on options that you choose, however the exam was one flat fee.
Review of Service
The ophthalmologist was extremely thorough and I felt as though he checked every aspect of my ocular health. Coming from a family with a history of glaucoma, cataracts and detached retinas, I was certainly concerned for my ocular health, however the doctor walked me through each and every aspect of the exam and made me feel at ease with my concerns.
Tips
Be sure to check whether you are seeing an optometrist or an ophthalmologist. An optometrist can perform a complete and thorough eye exam, however an ophthalmologist can perform surgery and can treat ocular diseases such as glaucoma and cataracts. If you have healthy eyes, an optometrist is certainly enough, however, if you have other issues and ophthalmologist may be a better fit.
