Description of service
One hour class of beginners yoga at a local yoga center. Included learning a few basic moves and the principals behind the practice of yoga. About 8 of us attended. I went alone one evening after work.
Review of Service
I only went once. I was not impressed. As an overweight person, I found the poses very difficult and the teacher did not seem to care or to offer me any alternatives to the classic poses for my shape/weight. All the other students were thin or normal sized and she just focused on them and pretty much ignored me. I did not feel welcome and I felt ignored and really badly. I left feeling ashamed of myself for thinking that I could do yoga at my size. I would not recommend this particular facility to anyone. I have heard there are classes specifically for overweight people, but have yet to find any near me.
Tips
If you are overweight, yoga MAY not be for you, unless you can find a class specifically geared toward overweight people. I went into this completely green and ignorant of what was expected of me, or I never would have gone. But I also had heard that yoga teachers were really nice and nonjudgemental, especially in a beginners class. In my case, this was not how it went. I would never go to another yoga class, unless I find one for fat people.
