Description of service
I bought A Chevrolet Lumina for my son and I thought I was getting a good deal, but I got a lemon becuase the transmission went out about a week after having it. We took it to a local mechanic's shop because I knew a nationally known shop would charge a lot more. The shop charge was $300 for labor only, and I found a refurbished transmission online for $200 getting the grand total to $500. I dropped the car off, and picked it up a week later with it running perfectly.
Review of Service
The shop was dirty and it seemed like the people that worked there only knew about mechanics, and nothing about customer service. That was okay with me, becuase I wasn't paying for customer service. Their front office grunt asked me my name and then for the keys. He told me it would be ready next week, and that was about it. I had called ahead and gotten a quote, so I left my son's car in their hands. I picked up the car the next week and it worked fine, I have no complaints.
Tips
If you have a nicer car you may want to goto your car maker's shop, who is sure to have the highest price but the best parts and labor. If you want to go cheap, call around and compare prices. There are at least a dozen mecanic shops in my area to choose from.
