Description of service
My son is pretty hard on his car, so I wasn't surprised when I got the phone call that his car wouldn't move when he pushed on the gas. We had it towed to the local mechanic's shop who told us that the transmission went out. I wanted to just junk the car, but my son had other ideas since he had put a lot of time and money into customizing the car. The mecanic quoted us $350 for parts and labor to install a refurbished transmission, but the actual cost was $475 with tax and everything.
Review of Service
I was kind of upset that the quote was way lower than the actual cost, but I got over it once I seen how good of a job they had done. I drove the car for the first few days after getting it out of the shop and it drove perfectly, even better than it did before. My son has promised to take better care of his vehicle from now on...but we'll see about that.
Tips
If you're sure its the transmission that has gone out, call around to different shops and see what kind of prices they offer. In my part of the country, there are shops that specifically deal with transmissions, so you can call there first and get a feel on prices and time lines.
