Description of service
The price was for a tip to the delivery driver (a bit more than 20% the order price), though there were no actual delivery charges. The service included delivery of some "gourmet" items from a local market that specializes in stocking these things. None of it is specifically "organic" so I chose this category over that one.
The market also offers a fair number of odd services and unexpected, including preposterously posh stuff valet parking. They seem to be positioning themselves to become the grocery store version of, well I can't mention the name, but the department store that is known for its employees gift wrapping competitors packages and going out to change tires and warm up cars in winter for their customers.
Review of Service
After first visiting this place a few weeks ago by accident, picking up a couple deli sandwiches (delicious and perfectly constructed, but a touch more expensive than m usual place). Though the in-store music was a bit too loud for my taste, while I was there I noticed quite a selection of specialty items including unusual wines and a lovely selection of foreign cheeses, along with the usual produce and bread and dairy and eggs. All was a little more expensive than I was used to paying, , but when I was throwing a party and thought at the last minute it would be nice to have a few more cheeses and a bottle of port, I immediately thought of these guys and called to see if they delivered. Of course they did.
After a brief discussion about what I was looking for (not artificially brief. I got the impression I would have been welcome to ramble on about cheese for hours, but I was in a bit of a hurry), they convinced me to set a budget and let the clerks make selections on my behalf. I couldn't be happier with the results.
When the food was delivered, it took some effort to convince the driver to take the tip as she said she wasn't supposed to do that and that she was paid well enough that she didn't really need to hustle for tips.
Tips
If you see something interesting and with potential, take a risk on it for goodness sake. Even if it's just a grocery. The experience may be well worth it.
