I hired a professional career coach to help me decide what the best new career path would be. The cost was $150 for two sessions.
The package I selected included two sessions. The first session involved a very long and comprehensive survey about my strengths and weaknesses as well as a personality test. I also brought in copies of my work history and education history. It took about 2 hours.
The second session was a week later. It lasted about an hour. The coach gave me print outs of how I scored on all the tests I took. She also gave me a list of careers that she thought would interest me based on my scores. For the top three scores she also included a step by step plain to achieve a career. These plans included further education and suggestions on entry-level jobs to get my foot in the door.

I knew that I wasn't happy with my job but I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with my life. I found a career counselor and signed up for their services. I was happy with the service
Tips
Be sure that your coach takes to the time to get to know you and your goals before they give you a comprehensive plan.
