Description of service
A local body shop replaced the back rear passenger window of our truck after a relative sideswiped a tree and broke the glass. The process was finished within an hour and was done at my place of employment during a time period when the body shop didn't have a lot of other work to do. This was only possible because the window is not the kind that is on a "track" inside the door. This is the type of truck window that pops out to open and latches closed.
Review of Service
The glass was replaced with a used back window from a junkyard vehicle, which it made it slightly cheaper. The tint was slightly off from what was originally in our truck, but that was ok, too. It would have run us around $40 more to get a new window with a matching tint. It's just not that big of a deal to us to have it match exactly.
Tips
Most body shops and glass repair shops do this type of service in their own shop. In rare cases, when the door does not have to be taken apart to make sure the glass is on track, they may be willing to come to your home or place of employment to do it. It all depends on how busy they are. Since body shops, especially Mom and Pop ones, usually have slow times, it never hurts to ask if they can come to you if your windows are easy enough to install.
