Description of service
I had a both a pitch raise, since the piano had been left unplayed and untuned for about twenty years in my grandmother's attic, and an overall fine tuning.
Review of Service
When I first reviewed the possibilities, I found that simply fine tuning was generally $50. Because of the poor shape and neglect my piano was left in, I needed a tune-up, which generally costs $130-$150 on its own.
For both services, especially considering how very out of tune the piano was, the price I paid was very sensible. I found other services that charge twice as much, but after comparing prices, I realized that the $130 price was more than fair and the service was performed to perfection. With both types of tuning, it can be more than $300 dollars. I found a service that was willing to do both for the $130 price tag.
Tips
Make sure you check with as many services as you can in your area before committing to a tuning. If you shop around and check with older businesses, you are very likely to get the best deal. Also, there is no shame in bargaining. After discussing with the final business that I decided to use, I asked if the cost was for both tunings and, because I was so nice to him and flexible with my schedule for when they could drop by to do it (since it is a house call service), he dropped the regular $50 fine tuning fee and included it with the tune-up.
