Description of service
This year, I paid for a house sitter on two occasions. The person was to stay in my home the entire time and take care of my pets (I have a dog who requires feeding and being let outside and small animals who require feeding). I allowed them to eat my food and use my television, DVDs, and computer. I paid $100 dollars for a weekend and $250 for an entire week. When I came home, the house was very clean and my pets were happy so I paid the person an additional $50 dollar tip on both occasions. To ensure the person was responsible and trustworthy, I posted my request on a local college work board.
Review of Service
I was very pleased with my house sitter. When I came home, the house was even cleaner than when I left it, and all my belongings were in good condition. Additionally, the person that I hired did not over abuse the access to the food. I did not receive any strange charges after they stayed (no long distance phone calls or purchased movies on my cable bill).
Tips
I would recommend that you hire a college student as they are usually responsible individuals and also have a lot of studying to do, so they do not mind being stuck in a house as long as they have access to the Internet. I do believe that it a good idea to stock up on snack food and allow the person usage of your television and such as they are likely to do this anyway and giving them permission means that they do not have to be sneaky or feel guilty about doing it. I would also recommend providing detailed instructions if you do have pets that will need care.
