Description of service
The cost covered the adoption of a kitten through the animal shelter. The cost covered all necessary fees and included the kitten's first set of shots. Half of the cost was refundable once proof of having the cat neutered or spayed was sent in.
Review of Service
At first everything seemed alright with the service, but in the end I would have to give it a horrible review. The animal shelter did not seem to be much different from any other I have seen, but the animals could definately have been kept in better conditions. Also, the animal shelter told us when we received the kitten that she was between 6 and 8 weeks old and in perfect health. She seemed a bit small to me for that age, but I didn't question their word. However, two days after we took her home, and before we had gotten her into a vet, she passed out and we had to take her to an emergency animal clinic. She was given IV fluids and some sort of sugar mixture. They kept her overnight for observation and in the morning the vet there told us that she was only 3-4 weeks old and was severely malnurished. They informed us that she was way too young to be away from her mother and that she could not yet eat regular cat food (the only thing they had placed in her cage at the shelter). We then had to make her a small nest in a quiet bedroom and bottle feed her every few hours for the next couple weeks. Not only did this cost us a few hundred dollars, but it really made me angry that the vet at the animal shelter had either not taken the time to fully assess the kitten, was completely incompetent, or outright lied to us.
PS - The kitten came through fine and she is now a very active and loving cat.
Tips
If you adopt an animal make sure to do so on a day when you can get into a vet either the same or next day. You definately want to have the animal completely checked out by an outside vet as soon as possible.
