My two children received counseling for several issues. This service also involved cognitive and behavioral tests done with a therapist, as well as written and computer generated testing modules.

I was very pleased with the services I received. I believe the tests were very thorough and gave insight into the child's thinking, reasoning and behavoirs. I was surprised by some of the results, and this allowed me to better understand and help my children. The counselors were very effective at working with children and made the sessions fun and not intimidating. Both my children were very comfortable in the office and said they would go back. This service is an excellent value for the price. I learned things about my kids to better help them deal with issues they have now or may have in the future. I think the skills they learn by talking to a counselor will stay with them and give them the tools they need in many aspects of their lives, even into adulthood. The only thing I did not like about this service is that the sessions are only 45 minutes long.

I would recommend that someone looking for counseling for a child should do several interviews with different therapists and/or get a referral from a trusted friend or health care provider. I would also recommend explaining to the child why they are going and to eleviate any fears they may have. I would stress that nothing is "wrong" with them - that counseling is a way of helping them deal with their issues.
