Description of service
Last year when my daughter was a senior in high school, two of her best friends who lived in California were killed by a drunk driver on a Saturday morning while the girls were on their way to a Habitat for Humanity fundraiser. They were sisters who had previously relocated to California from Florida because their father was to be stationed in San Diego. They had lived in Tampa their whole lives and had just moved to San Diego four months prior to the accident. I can't tell you how traumatic it was for her, for me, for the school, for our church family, and for the community.
Review of Service
Normally the schools have counseling for this type of event, but because the girls were no longer students, the school really couldn't offer much help. I tried the school guidance office and the crisis counselors, but couldn't get the help I needed.
I found the help I needed and this particular agency charged based on income. I own my own business and I was required to pay the maximum abount, which was $35 an hour. I couldn't have been happier. Each person chooses on their own how long they want to go. My daughter went for three sessions over a three-week period and then stopped. She went back about two months later just to let the counselot know how she was doing and the counselor continued to give her advice.
Tips
Don't count on insurance paying for counseling. So, shop around. Usually you can find a government agency in your town that offers this service. Normally you pay based on your income.
