I got a consultation with an MD, as well as 4 months worth of birth control pills at the local branch of a non-profit family planning clinic.

I think the pills were $23/month, and the consultation was $80.

The service was excellent. The receptionists were friendly and efficient, and the doctor was very helpful as well.

I didn't need an exam or anything, so I just asked the doctor for her advice on some issues, and she recommended that I change to a different kind of birth control pill, then she wrote me two prescriptions, so that I could take her advice and switch, or not, depending on what I wanted.

Clinics like this one work really hard to make sure the environment is a safe one for anyone who needs advice, meds, or treatment. Don't be afraid and don't be ashamed if you need to take advantage of the services.

Also, they charge on a sliding scale based on your household income. It was significantly more than it would have cost if I had insurance, but I was happy to pay because I don't mind supporting this great organization.
