Description of service
When I was unemployed and had no medical insurance, I still wanted to have her annual exam with a doctor. I looked into Family Planning available to me in our area and found one within a few miles of our home. They charge you based on your income if you do not have insurance. I got a full physical exam, pap smear, iron level check of her blood, urine test, and a depo shot (birth control injection).
Review of Service
I loved this Family Planning facility. The staff was very friendly to both of us, the midwife was gentle and understanding of my discomfort, there was no shame in being poor or needing help financially. It was the first time in years she did not cry during the exam (it is traumatic for her) and they actually suggested ways for her to control her migraine (including switching her from the pill to the shot). I would recommend Family Planning to any couple having a hard time financially but still wanting to take care of themselves and be responsible.
Tips
Do not believe all the misguided pre-judgements associated with Family Planning. The facility was high tech, clean, had an educated and friendly staff, and was actually more willing to answer questions I had and make suggestions based on a thorough medical history. I truly feel that they were better than most regular doctors at making mefeel at ease.
