Description of service
My family recently got together for a reunion and one of the things we did was take a short, one hour tour of the st. croix river and the spectacular scenery surrounding it. The price was 25 dollars per adult and 15 dollars per child under 12. My parents also payed a reduced rate because they are senior citizens. i don't think there was any tax for this service, or it was included in the price. The tour was given on a slow-moving old fashioned steam-type paddle boat with a big turning paddle wheel. It seated about thirty people, and captain and tour guide.
Review of Service
It was a pleasant experience, slow-moving and no motion sickness, which i usually suffer. The tour guide was pleasant and knowledgeable and made interesting commentary about landmarks like the rock formations which the indians gave different names. I do think the price was rather steep for such a short tour, 25 dollars for one hour, which added up with the large group of people we brought. The advantage of this activity was that the tour was enjoyable for all ages - it wasn't too long for kids to stay interested, and wasn't physically demanding for the senior citizens. I probably wouldn't take this boat tour again though, because of the price.
Tips
Make sure to bring a camera with plenty of film, or a fully charged up digital camera, if you take a tour like this because the scenery is fantastic and affords many opportunities for great photos. I wouldn't necessarily bring small children under say five years old because they wouldn't be too interested. But do bring grandmas and grandpas because they will enjoy the peaceful tour. you don't need to bring food, maybe just a bottle of water. the seating is comfortable so that shouldn't be a problem.
