I had the sole of my favorite shoes replaced. I'd had them for almost 5 years with no repair. They initially cost 200 dollars and would have cost around 350 dollars to replace with similar shoes. A cobbler was recommended to me and I ended up paying around 52 dollars including taxes to have them resoled.
Review of Service
If I didn't know my shoes I wouldn't know these were old. They look brand new. I went to a place a buddy recommended. I dropped them off in the morning on a Tuesday and they were ready by the end of work on a Thursday. They were a tad bit tight at first but I thought I'd just wait it out as maybe they somehow were tightened and would loosen up with wear. I was right after a few days they loosened right now.
Tips
Definitely get some advice from a buddy or co-worker on this one. I've heard horror stories about shoes being lost and leather being destroyed. Find out how much they guarantee your shoes are insured for if they do ruin them. Don't worry if it takes a few days. You'd rather spend a few days and get them done right.
