The place where i got my lip pierced was a small, independently owned business. The owners/employees were very easygoing, and friendly, as you will find in most every tattoo/piercing shop. I went in to specifically get my lip pierced, and left with plans of getting a new tatoo as well. They offered many options to me, all different kinds of jewelery and placement on my lip. They were very thorough. They made a mark on my lip to make sure it was exactly where i wanted it to be. They describe the process in great detail, and assure you that there is only a minimal amount pain. I was very excited, and a little nervous, as i had never gotten a body piercing before. They assured me that the numbing medication given, would make it virtually painless. After the piercing they were very thorough with the process of healing/cleaning and even supplied with a care sheet. For all that is included in the 40 dollars i paid, i felt that it was very well worth it. The price i paid included all the special service given by the piercer, and it even included the jewelery. They discussed ideas for new tattoos as well, and did a very good job at upselling with no pressure. I also bought a spray that would help the cleaning process. So all in all i spent about 50 bucks, but you can clean your new piercing with household, anti-bacterial soap. I was very pleased with my piercing experience.

I think you should definitely check out a place to get your lip pierced for cleanliness, use of new needles, and thoroughness of the piercer. This will definitely minimize the pain, and length of the healing process.
