I paid a local college writing teacher to edit a paper I had written. It was edited for grammar, spelling and context only, not content.
Review of Service
This was a great experience. I was charged per project and not per hour or per page. I showed the paper to the editor who went over it before giving me a quote on the cost. I was quoted a 1 week turn around and it was received right on time. I am not a grammar expert (which is why I paid an editor to edit it) but the paper was much more reader friendly when she was done with it. She also gave me two copies of the paper - one completely corrected and clean and one that showed the things she'd changed in red line. I appreciated this extra step so I could see what changes she'd made.
Tips
Definitely try and get recommendations if you can. If you don't know anyone who's used this kind of service than make sure you do a quick internet check to verify the persons credentials. Try to get a quote per project and not per word or hour so that you have a definite idea how much the final product will cost.
