Description of service
I paid $150 to have a professional editor/writer read the first draft of my novel. They edited for clarity, grammar and content.
Review of Service
The editor I used certainly didn't pull any punches! I sent them my 150 page manuscript and one week later had a copy of it that they had edited. They used different colors in Word to point out different errors. Errors in grammar were in red, clarity issues were in purple and suggestions for improving the content were done in green. I had proofed the thing a million times but they still found a ton of grammatical errors that I never would have caught. They helped a lot with clarity issues as well because as a writer it's sometimes had to step far enough back to realize what might not be clear enough for the reader. They also gave a lot of suggestions on ways to word things better or leave out excessive description. I didn't agree with all of their points but they were clearly worded and it all definitely gave me some things to think about.
Tips
Great service but don't do it if you are sensitive about your writing and don't want honest advice. Be sure to check the credentials of whomever you hire so you don't end up paying a college student who is a worse writer than you are.
