the Cost of Freelance Editors

The price covered the cost of a professional editor to go over the text on our company's website and propose fixes for clarity, ease of comprehension, and consistency of style. Job prices are relative to how much work needs to be done. As a professional editor and writer, he is also available to do freelance writing work.

We have several hundred pages on our site and very few were written by the same person. After receiving a couple complaints about the confusing nature of some of the writing, we decided to have the entire site gone over to ensure readability.

We posted a few sample pages of text on a freelance job board, asked for editing samples and quotes based on those pages, and we hired from among the surprisingly many applications we received.

It took a bit over a month for everything to be gone through and checked to our satisfaction. Overall we're pretty happy with the results. The editor wasn't as familiar with engineering as we'd have liked, but we were able to talk him through the tricky parts of the material well enough that he was shortly able to produce some very good work.

Don't expect magic in the technical fields from most writers and editors. For the most part, if they could understand the material well enough to do it, they'd actually be doing it. What they're there for is to make the writing say what you mean to say as clearly as possible. If technical people could do that as well as they could do the technical stuff, we wouldn't need editors.
