Description of service
I shipped out two of my cars when I moved from California to Chicago. I contacted several vendors and they average about $800-$1200 for a compact car and $1100-$1400 for a SUV. Based on the reviews, I selected one that costs me $900 to ship my compact car and $1100 for SUV. This includes the move from California to Chicago and storage of my vehicles up to 72 hrs. I chose to tip them upon delivery around $20 for each vehicle.
Review of Service
The service provider is usually good in reaching out to you once your confirm your acceptance to use their service. You can work with the vendor and decide on the date and time at least 3 days prior to your move. You will be given a checklist on what needs to be done to the car like cleaning, fuel level etc. On the day of your move, the service provider clearly documents the condition of your car and provides you a copy of the documentation. Upon accepting the car, you will be given an estimate on when it will reach the destination. They will give you an update if there is a delay in the estimated date. When the car is delivered, they will re-inspect your car for any damages and document them. Fortunately, I didn't have any damages to my car. Storage option is really nice if you are not certain on where you going to live.
Tips
To save some money on shipping your car, always contact several vendors before finalizing one. Even with the competitive rates, negotiate for getting some discount and most providers will offer you at least 5-10% and 15% if you are lucky based on the demand levels. When you are shipping two cars, you can work out a very good deal with them. Also, pay attention while the vendor is inspecting the delivered car. If you don't address damages(if any) right away, this can take several days to resolve.
