Description of service
I retained an attorney for a DUI I was charged with in December of 2006 because I was told that the price often ends up evening out as they are often able to get you a lesser charge and thus a lesser punishment. I was referred to a lawyer in town by a friend of mine. The lawyer charged a $2500 retainer fee up front as well as a $250 an hour fee for anything over and above that. I ended up paying $3000 for the lawyer's time in drafting the necessary documents, speaking to the necessary people to set up my court dates and DMV hearing and my charge was reduced from a DUI to a Wet and Reckless. I am not positive exactly how it was broken down by price but I do know that it was most definitely worth the cost.
Review of Service
I was pleased with the service I received especially for the price. I have often heard of others paying much more for a DUI attorney up to $10,000 which was more than three times what I ended up paying for what I believe was high quality service as the lawyer got my charge reduced as much as it possibly could have besides being dropped which just doesn't happen. For $3000 I was able to get my charge lowered without having to do the footwork myself and the cost of a misdemeanor Wet and Reckless as compared to a felony DUI is much less.
Tips
I would advise anyone looking for this type of service to do some research and realize that you don't necessarily have to pay top dollar to get an effective attorney for this type of service, just talk to anyone you can and perhaps do some online research. I was referred to this attorney by a friend and will definitely refer the lawyer to anyone else I know who needs this type of service. It is not an easy thing to go through this type or any type of charge, but to have someone who knows the law is definitely a benefit. I would most definitely suggest retaining an attorney for any type of felony or even misdemeanor charge to make sure that all of your bases are covered.
